IMPERIAL

I did this painting for the Daily Paintworks Challenge. My good friend Carol Marine took this photo somewhere in Florida and posted it for any artist to paint and contribute to the challenge. It was kinda fun and I think it is a great idea to get fellow artists to paint and see each other's work. Collectors will be able to see all the variety. It is very exciting!

BEFORE THE STORM

It was interesting to paint this image so small (6"x6"). I have a painting on my web site of the same image pretty large (48"x68"). I'm enjoying stretching myself a little and going into a new area.
This image unknowingly captured the "Andrea Gale" in the harbor. It's not very evident in this small painting, but when I was doing the larger one I noticed that the greenish boat on the far right had Andrea Gale painted on it. That was the ship that was lost in the movie with George Clooney, based on a true story.

TORTILLA SELLERS

Boy, I really got caught up in a bunch of stuff to the point that I was starting to feel like I was fighting to get back to the canvas again! Well I made it, Yeah!

LOCOMOTIVE 515

I think they call this a "Tuscan Red", incredible machines. I had a brother in law that got hit by one of these and lived to tell about it.

COLORADO STEAM LOCOMOTIVE

There was a huge park across HWY 66 where i grew up that had an old Locomotive like this one parked in the middle of it. I spent countless hours playing on that train. Painting this one brought back a lot of memories.

1929 Ford AA C Cab

Usually I take my field studies and with my photo references I make a larger studio painting. This time I took my field study which was a 6x8 (past post Nov 17, 2010) and without any photo references attempted to make it smaller. I spent some time on some sketches first and it still took me about 4 wipes of my loose design on my panel to finally start painting. I'm pleased with how it came out, but I can see doing this again in the future, maybe.
